- Sep 09, 2019I am going to accept the solution that it was the ISP modem all along..even after swapping out the hitron coda 4589 did just not want to keep my orbi online.
With my new Arris modem I have been staying online !
Just having slight issues with orbi speeds I will open a new thread and thanks for everyone who assisted and listened to me in this topic

What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?
What is the distance between the router and satellite(s)? 30 feet is recommended in between them to begin with depending upon building materials when wirelessly connected. What channels are you using? Auto? Try setting manual channel 1, 6 or 11 on 2.4Ghz and any unused channel on 5Ghz.
Any Wifi Neighbors near by? If so, how many?Ensure Beamforming and WMM is enabled. Under
Advanced Tab/Advanced Settings/Wireless Settings. Try MIMO enabled first if you any MIMO supporting devices. If not, you can disable this.
Try disabling the following and see:
Armor, Circle, Daisy Chain, Fast Roaming, IPv6 and Set 20/40Mhz Coexistence to 40Mhz only. Save settings and reboot the router and satellite(s). - CodybutsSep 05, 2019AspirantThanks for response.. i think I will try a factory reset on the orbi one more time .. should I pin reset both satellites and the router ? Will I be ok using the same ssid and PW so my devices reconnect
- FURRYe38Sep 05, 2019Guru - Experienced User
Yes you can use the pin in back, 15 seconds press then let go.
Yes you can still use same custom SSID name and PW.
After resetting the RBS and RBR. You might try not adding the RBS just yet, I would setup the RBR first alone and check out the access for a while. Then maybe add just one RBS.
Ensure the distance between the RBS and RBS is 30 feet to start with...
- CodybutsSep 05, 2019AspirantThanks kind of already having issues.
My ISP modem is going offline right after, was also having connectivity wifi issues during setup. Set up one satellite and it was.blue on top.. in orbi app was showing red poor connection though - CodybutsSep 05, 2019Aspirant1050 sq ft bungalow.
Router front of house corner where cable comes in.
Satellite 1 bedroom upstairs opposite side of house .
Sat 2 goes in garage which would connect.to satellite 1.
Speed test beside router is 450 over wifi... Should it be higher with 1g internet? - CodybutsSep 05, 2019AspirantThis should cover my whole house and garage
- CodybutsSep 05, 2019AspirantMy orbi keeps dropping to 30 Mbps when I'm sitting beside the router..one second it's fine the next it's not..no satellites plugged in
Edit: now I'm offline..wifi shows full bars but my modem and router both drop connection - CodybutsSep 05, 2019AspirantAll I have right now is the orbi router plugged in..it seems huge inconsistent speeds.. PC a second ago was 1gb now 300 ..what do I do from here..it was fine ? Then not fine
- FURRYe38Sep 05, 2019Guru - Experienced User
So if you connect your PC at the ISP modem are you getting consistent speeds here?
Wired PC speeds at the RBR in AP modem are not consistent?
Wondering if your Orbi system could be faulty here.
- CodybutsSep 05, 2019AspirantIt drops my modem connection aswell
- FURRYe38Sep 05, 2019Guru - Experienced User
The PC or the RBR in AP mode?
Swap LAN cable between the RBR and ISP Modem?
Try this: Disable ALL wifi radios on the modem, configure the modems DMZ/ExposedHost or IP Pass-Through for the IP address the Orbi router gets from the modem. Then you can use the Orbi router in Router mode.
- CodybutsSep 05, 2019AspirantThe orbi is in ap mode
- FURRYe38Sep 05, 2019Guru - Experienced User
Is the PC dropping connect with the modem or is the RBR dropping the connection with the modem?
- CodybutsSep 05, 2019AspirantBoth. But wifi will stay online my phone but no access !

So if you turn OFF The Orbi and connect with the ISP modem still experience connetion issues here?
- CodybutsSep 05, 2019AspirantNo, the problem is not with.my isp
- FURRYe38Sep 05, 2019Guru - Experienced User
You might try downgrading the RBR to v44, factory reset and setup from scratch and just test the RBR alone in AP mode. See if the problem continues, if it does, I would contact NG support and ask about an RMA.
- CodybutsSep 05, 2019AspirantI called support had me change the MTU size to 1492 in wan setup and threshold 2300 for the 2.4 and 5ghz settings.. now trying to figure out why my sat 1 is orange poor connection.
Router . Sat 1 . Sat 2 is how I have them ran..sat 2 is showing green for good and sat 1 in the middle is poor..I'm on hold. - FURRYe38Sep 05, 2019Guru - Experienced User
Ok.
- CodybutsSep 05, 2019AspirantMan I am fed up.
Called my ISP told them Netgear told me my " internet port " IP is private and need to be made public.
I call iso..they said I have both public and private ip.
Can you tell me what's next ??
I'm on the phone with a girl now who wanted to do a factory reset..I told her I already did that... The last guy told me about the internet port needs changing..and now I'm on hold..again. - FURRYe38Sep 05, 2019Guru - Experienced User
Do you have access to the modems UI, if so, setup the DMZ or IP Passthru for the IP address the RBR gets from the modem. You can configure the RBR for router mode here.
I would ask if your ISP supports a stand alone modem only option as you don't need a router at the modem, just a modem only and then connect the RBR to the modem.

Leave the cable modem in router mode
1. Try turning off lan dhcp on the modem
2. Connect with your computer manually if needed
3. Make sure your ip addresses for the orbi and cable modem are not the same
192.168.1.1 and 192.168.2.1 on the orbi
put the cable modem router IP address in dns settings of the orbi
- CodybutsSep 05, 2019Aspirant
they had me change a mac address box to give me a dynamic ip.. pretty sure my net just cut out though.
INTERNET PORTIP Address 192.168.0.92 Connection DHCP IP Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0 Domain Name Server192.168.0.1
Router info:
IP Address 192.168.1.1modem:192.168.0.1 private lan ip255.255.255.0 subnet mask - vkdeltaSep 05, 2019NETGEAR Employee Retired
please post screenshots of multiple screens on *BOTH* CODA and ORBI. I cannot decipher form the text properly. Text is showing you have 192.168.0.x on both the devices.

If the Orbi is in AP mode, DO NOT USE THE ORBI WAN (yellow) PORT to connect to your cable modem/router. Connect one of the Orbi ports to the router.
When I had my Orbi connected to my router in AP mode, if I used the Orbi's WAN (yellow) port, it caused a lot of problems. I moved it to over of the other ports (found in a post on the forums) and it worked fine and no more major issues.
