The device shouldn't care if theres both a 2.4ghz and 5ghz broadcasting. What usually causes issues is the app during setup.
what I've seen people doing to get these setup is to shut off the router and then use a phone's hotspot with the same ssid/password as you router. Get the device setup and then shut off the hotspot. the device should auto-connect to the orbi then.

The IOT device in question with the Orbi RBR20 doesn't have the option to remember SSID credetails than more than one at a time so this isn't an option. The main question here is can I just isolate the RBR20 to run on 2.4ghz as I believe this is what is causing the failure for the IOT to connect?

If you're setting your hotspot with the EXACT same ssid/password as the router, it'll auto-reconnect to the routers ssid when you shut off the hotspot. I've used this numerous times with IOT devices first started having issues with mesh systems.

The Orbi's don't' have the option to separate out the 2.4ghz from the 5ghz. If you search on the forums, you'll find tons of reports/requests for this and its not something netgears implemented. Its actually lazy coding on the IOT devices APP.
