CrimpOn - thanks for the reply. The device does show up in the lower table of unconnected devices, but not sure how it got there. I actually tried connecting the device with my Son's iPhone and I think I got closer, but it still wouldn't connect. That may be the time it at least made it to the table.
I have access control on, but I also tried turning it off. I learned how to reset the device with a particular series of button pushes from the manufacturer and now I do it frequently between tests. I have tried forgetting the network, clearing the cache and data of the app in the phone and making sure the app has all permissions. I'll give it a try to set it up in Lan Setup.

After it has an assigned IP in LAN Setup, I would still disable Access Control during the actual setup procedure. Or, at the very least make it "new devices allowed to connect." Oh, geez. I would do BOTH. Allow new devices and then disable access control. Just take that factor out of the picture entirely.
