Purchased ORBI RBR50 at end of September. Installed and was happy with the performance until the internet started dropping. Between travel and other activities, I was not able to start troubleshootin...

- When you say "internet dropping", do you mean that the devices will still have wifi connection but will have no internet access? Or will the device loose wifi?
- What type of wired devices do you have connected to Orbi?

Hi ekhalil--
Thanks for your response. I could have been more precise in my description.
Indeed, the cable modem appears to be working fine (judging by the lights on the front), but the connection to it goes down. That includes all devices, including devices directly wired to the Orbi or its satellite. Wired devices include iMac (to the Orbi router), as well as Xbox to the satellite.
In my experience, restarting the Orbi is not enough - I have to restart the modem as well to regain access for all my devices.

What FW is currently loaded?
What is the Mfr and model# of the ISP modem the NG router is connected too?
Is the Orbi system operating in Router or AP mode?
What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?
What is the distance between the router and satellite(s)? 30 feet is recommended in between them to begin with depending upon building materials. What channels are you using? Auto? Try setting manual channel 1, 6 or 11 on 2.4Ghz and any unused channel on 5Ghz.
Any Wifi Neighbors near by? If so, how many?

The Cisco DPC3008 is a modem and I assume that Orbi is set in Router Mode.
My analysis is that -somehow- Orbi is losing DNS, and rebooting Orbi and the modem is just reconnecting the DNS? I've seen this reported by others. Please try using 8.8.8.8 as your primary DNS and see if the problem gets better.
DNS settings are found in the web GUI under >> ADVANCED >> Setup >> Internet Setup >>

Hi ekhalil--
Thanks again for your reply. The Orbi is in router mode.
I will change the primary DNS to 8.8.8.8 and report back.

After changing the primary DNS to 8.8.8.8 on 1/28/19, I had a couple of days of success, but we lost our connection again this morning. As usual, my son (home from school for a snow day...) rebooted the modem and router, and we had access again.
Does anyone have further thoughts on addressing my problem? Should I have changed the secondary DNS as well?
