Orbi rbr50 getting slower WiFi on Speedtest than wired on speedtest.

I have an Orbi rbr50 with a satellite and xfinity gigabit service. When I run an Orbi speed test standing next to my main router I get 800-900 mbps DL and 43nmbps UL. When I use an independent speedtest app standing in the same place I only get 270 mbps DL and 43 mbps UL. Why am I getting a different DL speed but the same UL speed on the independent speedtest app when compared to the Orbi speedtest?

I've tried looking all over online but can't seem to find any information. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • What Firmware version is currently loaded?
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?

What are the speeds seen with a wired PC behind the RBR?

What wireless devices are you using to wirelessly speed test?

What connect rates are you seeing on the wireless device? Load up wifi sweet spots to check this rate with the device connected to the RBR

I'm using an ARRIS TG3482G modem in bridge mode from my provider, xfinity, and my firmware on my RBR50 is V2.5.1.16. When I run an ookla speedtest from my wired desktop after the RBR I get 370 mbps. When I run an ookla speedtest from my MacBook on WiFi standing next to the RBR I get 270 mbps. The upload is the same on all devices wired and wireless. I'm not understanding why I'm obviously gettting 800 mbps going into the RBR but getting only 370 mbps when wired AFTER the RBR and still a lower 270 mbps on WiFi after the RBR while upload stays the same. Whatever is happening is only affecting the download speeds.

hardwired into the arris you get full gig speeds?

Have you ever hit gig speeds from the orbi or was it a recent upgrade to gigabit?

Have you tried a simple factory reset of the orbi and reinstall to see if its an old setting cause an issue?

Also, make sure qos, traffic monitoring, parental controls, access controls are disabled.

  • When you test with the built in app (orbi) it hosts the test off the Orbi router and not off the wireless device. So its basically a hardwired test.

When you speedtest on your phone/tablet/device its running off the wireless and that's the limiting factor.
