I bought the orbi hoping that I can split the devices between the 2 routers.
my question is, I am hoping that I dont need to add the orbi onto my current router.
Am i right in thinking that I dont need to, or am i expecting too much
Users have reported having more than 100 devices on an Orbi system. There are routine reports of more than 50.
In a technical sense, the Orbi design allows for about 250 potential IP adddresses and has table space for 65,000 IP connections. (A single web page may open hundreds of connections while loading the page. They close automatically shortly after.) My 30-odd devices are now using 1,107 sessions out of the 65,000 possible.
FURRYe38is correct that splitting devices across two routers is not recommended. Either use one or the other as a "router", but not both.
