Orbi RBR50 keeps dropping internet

Can you eliminate the FIOS router and connect directly to the ONT? This is how we connect Orbi to Frontier FIOS here.
I have now turned off the Verison Fios wireless, wrapped it in a faraday cage, and hard wired my Orbi RBR50 to it. Unless I am standing right next to the Orbi Router, it will not connect and shows that it is offline. It will not allow remote access either. It shows no (0) satellite connections (though throughout the house and across the yard, the signal is strong- only possible via satellites, since the hub is in the basement now). Can't get it to connect to a single satellite despite factory reset or anything else. I now have 4 satellites as options since a friend got fed up with Orbi dropping the connection and went with Google, so gave me their hardware. 3 of the 4 satellites seem to be connected, though you couldn't tell from the Orbi app (shows not connected and 0 satellites). Multiple factory resets seem to have no effect or positive movement. Any thoughts? Thinking of switching to Google since this is becoming so much of an issue, especially under the current telework environment.

What is in a faraday cage?
When you say you reset, did you reconfigure it like it was new out of the box?
Did you try bypassing the router and going directly to the ONT with a NIC?
What does it look like through a web browser when you go to orbilogin.com?
