Orbi RBR50 release external IP
How do I tell the orb to release/renew its external IP? I found article for other netgear routers but nothing for Orbi

It would help to know the reason for doing this.
There is a "Reboot" option on the Orbi web interface, Advanced Tab Home Page. Also, powering off and back on will cause the Orbi to request DHCP. There is probably a telnet command, but I have not found it.

rebooting did not work. Verizon FIOS was useless, they said they can't help because I am using my own router.

Unless you change your MAC address, you will usually end up with same IP address as you had. Is that your purpose for renewing, to get a different IP?

This forum has been a great place to learn things about networking. My experience also has been that "releasing" an IP using DHCP and then asking for a lease usually results in getting the same IP.
The Orbi web interface provides a place to test this. The Internet Setup page allows the user to specify any MAC address for the Orbi to use. My guess is that this is a mechanism to allow the Orbi to impersonate the previous router, so that the ISP is unaware that the customer has swapped in a new router. (I have no idea how one would come up with a MAC address that is 100% guaranteed not to duplicate an existing MAC address, but the chances are pretty low.)
I'm still interested to learn what has caused the request.
