Orbi RBR50 repeated short disconnects.
Good morning all. I have a weird problem that has only just started, or has only become noticeable recently. This past weekend, when playing a PvP game on my Android device, it would disconn...

What Firmware version is currently loaded?
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?
Be sure your using a good quality LAN cable between the modem and router. CAT6 is recommended.
Your ISP Modem already has a built in router and wifi. This would be a double NAT (two router) condition which isn't recommended. https://kb.netgear.com/30186/What-is-Double-NAT
https://kb.netgear.com/30187/How-to-fix-issues-with-Double-NAT
Couple of options,
1. Configure the modem for transparent bridge or modem only mode. Then use the Orbi router in router mode. You'll need to contact the ISP for help and information in regards to the modem being bridged correctly.
2. If you can't bridge the modem, disable ALL wifi radios on the modem, configure the modems DMZ/ExposedHost or IP Pass-Through for the IP address the Orbi router gets from the modem. Then you can use the Orbi router in Router mode.
3. Or disable all wifi radios on the modem and connect the Orbi router to the modem, configure AP mode on the Orbi router. https://kb.netgear.com/31218/How-do-I-configure-my-Orbi-router-to-act-as-an-access-point and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7LOcJ8GdDo&app=desktop
Try option #2 first.
How many RBS are deployed?
What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?
What is the distance between the router and 📡 satellite(s)? 30 feet or more is recommended in between RBR and RBS🛰️ to begin with depending upon building materials when wirelessly connected.
What channels are you using? Auto? Try setting manual channel 1, 6 or 11 on 2.4Ghz and 40 to 48 channel on 5Ghz.
Any Wifi Neighbors near by? If so, how many?
Try disabling the following and see:
Armor, Smart Parental Controls or Circle, Traffic Meter, Daisy Chain, Fast Roaming, IPv6 and Set 20/40Mhz Coexistence to 40Mhz only. Set Short preamble instead of Long preamble modes. Save settings and reboot the router and satellite(s). Under Advanced Tab/Advanced Settings/Wireless Settings

Be sure to disable the Random MAC feature on the Android device while at home:

Thanks Furry, I read this (your standard/auto reply) on some other posts.
1. I tried AP, it didn't work.
2. I have a CAT5, not a CAT6 on the hard-line connection between Verizon and Orbi
3. I am not sure if I can disable the wireless on the Verizon (on the old one, I had to remove the antennae... this one does not have antennae). I will see what I can do with that.
4. I checked the network traffic in my area and the rating was "good". I did a speed test from the browser and from the Orbi app that uses Ookla, no problems on that end.
5. I have 2 satellites. When I reset, it took them a while to reconnect.
6. I have about 50 switches/outlets/smart devices/APs.
7. I have had no real problem with the satellites. I tried the connection right next to the router and confirmed connection to it.
8. I got a new phone, but the problem is on both the new and old phones and only on the Orbi (not on the Verizon or Wireless Network).
I will get on via web access later and get you the other information (specific firmware, DNS settings, etc).
Thanks!

1. I tried AP, it didn't work. Would need to figure out why. AP does work. Configuration is key.
2. I have a CAT5, not a CAT6 on the hard-line connection between Verizon and Orbi. CAT5 is only rated for 100Mpbs. I would get CAT6 ASAP that supports 1000Mpbs which Orbi supports.
3. I am not sure if I can disable the wireless on the Verizon (on the old one, I had to remove the antennae... this one does not have antennae). I will see what I can do with that. Ask the ISP for help on disabling wifi radios on there router.

Furry,
I figured out the problem.
It wasn't the ORBI.
Let me go through the points you made.
1st, I do not think I have a CAT6 on this machine, but I am getting over 30MB/s transfer (200mb/sec), so I am definitely getting more than the base 100.
2nd, the distance between the units is about 20 or so feet for one and 50 for another. I live in an old house with plaster/lath walls and ceilings, so there is some metal mesh interference. The 20ft one is a floor down and the 50ft one is two floors down into the basement.
FINALLY, it was your comment about random IP addresses. They WERENT random. I had assigned them. Here's the thing, I got a new phone and transferred the information to it from my old phone. INCLUDING the set 10.0.0.## IP address. They were both trying to access the same IP. When one would do a query (I guess) it would bump the other for a little bit, then the other would get reconnected.
I changed the IP assignment, restarted things and it appears to be working fine now!
Now if I can only get those dang Leviton switches to work!
Thanks!

Glad you found the issue and IP conflicts cause strange issues. It also demonstrates why assigning static IPs can lead to maintenance issues in the future, so better to rely upon DHCP or DHCP reserved addresses (on the Orbi side, not the wireless device/client).
