Orbi RBR850 blocks Apple Push Notifications

I've noticed that some Apple Push Notifications are blocked when my macOS 11 laptop is using the Orbi wi-fi.

When I connect the mac through my iPhone by internet sharing, the push notifications arrives to my mac.

So, where can I setup a firewall rule that opens up all necessary ports (see link below).

That link is very specific that Apple devices must be able to establish persistant connections to servers in Apple's cloud. ("to" means that Apple's APN servers do not initiate the connection. The device does.)  Orbi has  firewall rules similar to Windows and other devices, all outgoing connections are allowed and incomming connections are blocked unless a specific exemption is made  in the firewall.  (Windows in the Firewall control panel. Orbi in the Security function "Port Forwarding.")

By chance are Bitdefender Armor and/or Parental Controls enabled on this Orbi?

In Windows, there are programs that will display the status of every TCP/UDP connection established on the computer.  Is there a similar program for the Mac platform?  It would be useful to document whether these persistent connections exist on your Mac and if the connections differ based on how the Mac connects to the internet (Orbi vs. phone Hot Spot).

Since only some notifications are not working, perhaps if you identify  which notifications are not arriving.

  • Netgear has set up a community forum specifically for the Orbi AX (WiFi 6) products. Most of the people who watch that forum are more likely to have experience with Orbi AX and know how to work it better than those of us who follow this "general Orbi" forum. Might be more likely to find someone who has a solution if the question is posted there:

    Thank you.
