Orbi rbs10
I think I was misinformed, I just signed up with AT&T fiber and was told to get the Orbi satellites to extend the WiFi. Do I need an Orbi router as well?

This depends on exactly what equipment AT&T fiber installed (product number from the case).
In 2024, it would be really unusual for AT&T to recommend this ancient Netgear technology rather than a more modern WiFi system that supports at least WiFi6. (The Orbi "10" product supports only WiFi5.)
AT&T's fiber web site mentions a number of AT&T WiFi products:

Where did this advice come from?

On its own, the RBS10 is not much use.
