Orbi RBS50Y Outdoor Satellite Region Incorrect

Hi all
I have an outdoor satellite and I has been working fine here in NZ but I happened to notice that the region is set for North America. My router and indoor satellite are both set to Australia which is correct as both AU and NZ have the same regulatory standard for Wi-Fi. The outdoor satellite was purchased from Amazon US and this is probably why it’s North American - I couldn’t find an AU/NZ supplier. I have the NZ power adaptor for it, so no power issues. It’s been working fine but I’d like to know if it is possible to change the region setting to make the configuration consistent. There is not a region code change option in the browser admin on the router under the devices section where the satellites are listed and it’s not showing as an option to change when directly browsing to the outdoor satellite, and also not shown as an option in debug mode. I have updated the firmware to the latest for all units and this didn’t change the region. I have tried a factory reset and it boots and syncs ok, working fine again, but still shows the newest firmware and North American region. So the factory reset doesn’t completely wipe the device to a base firmware but only seems to wipe the end user configuration parameters. Is there an NVRAM parameter for the region code and how can this be changed?
Thanks
Jeff

  • Does the RBS50Y debug page have an option to enable telnet?

All this time, I had thought that satellites would inherit their "region-ness" from the router they were attached to.

The only difference I see between US and NZ WiFi standards are that NZ allows 2.4G channels 12 & 13 (which the US does not).

Yes you’d think satellites would inherit the router’s region but evidently not and it’s probably set in the NVRAM. The firmware doesn’t seem to be regionalised and setting up after a factory reset doesn’t give you the ability to set the region.

It’s good to know the only difference is a pair of upper channels are not available here. I think I could live with that limitation. Thanks CrimpOn.
