Orbi satallite for IPTV

I bought Orbi since I can't get a cable towards my TV for IPTV from Solcon (Netherlands).
IGMP Snooping 2 was required for it to work. Found out the Orbi should do it and I enabled the IGMPv2 option within Orbi.

No TV. Read something about IPv6 and put it on Auto config.

Still no TV.

Called with Solcon but they don't really support other products. Vlan 188 was required. Followed a YouTube instruction on how to enable Vlan but still no TV. I suppose that is because the sitallites don't work with the Vlan ... Is that correct?

I'm quite OK with good instructions but know almost nothing about these kind of things. Anyone here able to help met get IP TV working? Or isn't it possible though a Satellite?
  • IT WORKS!

I had contact with the Dutch support and again we didn't really got it to work. The closest we got was IPTV without Internet. After some angry calls to Solcon and very little support I got a work around. It was a work around which Netgear support Adam came up with.

Solcon only delivers Fritzbox which doesn't support Devolo powerplugs for some reason. Problems with the protocals they use. On the otherhand they do program the Fritzbox to provide Internet AND IPTV over every port. But their WIFI is s***, SONOS works bad on it as well (for some reason).

As for now I can't get it to work over a Satellite. BUT, I was able to program one ethernetport for IPTV and Devolo (powerline adapter) could bring the signal over the powerline towards my IPTV box. For this to work I did the following.

    • Disable IGMP Proxying (Solcon told me we needed it, but it seems we don't)
      • Advanced > Setup > WAN Setup > Check Checkbox: Disable IGMP Proxying.
    • Program VLAN
      • Advanced > Advanced Setup > VLAN / Bridge Settings
        • Enable VLAN / Bridge group > By VLAN tag group
        • ADD > Name: IPTV > VLAN ID: 188 (or any other ID the ISP provides) > Select any 1 port. > Hit APPLY
        • Select Internet line in Tag group and hit EDIT.
        • Set VLAN ID: 0 (Since internet is not setup over VLAN it should be set 0 since you can't remove it) > Hit APPLY
        • Back at the VLAN / Bridge Settings screen I hit APPLY again to be sure ;)
    • Connect powerline adapter to chosen LAN port at VLAN settings and reciving unit to IPTV.
    • Start power cicle just to be sure (Turn of everything, restart modem, then Router, then IPTV box)

Online we read all about using the Bridge Group, but for some reason that didn't work. Tag Group did. (But only after I thought about changing 'Internet' to "0") Also IGMP Proxying was adviced but that also wasn't true in this case.

I do suspect it should be possible since they are capable to program Fritzbox to provide Internet AND TV over the same port simultaneously. I don't know much about networking stuff... but I think you should know the PPPoE and IPv6 settings since a lot of internet resources speak about that. But as long as providers keep that information to themselves, we won't know. I'm not sure if it would be possible to get that info out of the Fritzbox...

    For now this works.

What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?

What happens if you disable IPv6 on the RBR?

      Firmware V2.5.1.16

Modem is a fibermodem "Genexis" No modelnumber visable. Also I understand it just puts true the internet without anything really restricting anything.

IPTV is a Amino Aria 610

Read moste of the provided links before opening a new case. Especially because I didn't see anyone speaking clearly of using a Satillite for the IPTV connection. Vlan (as a friend could tell me) might not work in this case because the connection from the Satllite to the router is wireless. Only port 1-3 from the router can be programmed for Vlan it seems. Sound legit...

Have been calling with the helpdesk. I think it was India... anyway,... they claimed it should be possible. ISP sadly doesn't support anything other than their own crap which isn't compatible with SONOS.

Tried the following with the helpdesk:

      • Disabled IPv6
      • Default DMZ Server
      • Lan Address Reservation
      • Vlan settings ID 188 (given by the provider)
        • After this the IPTV Amino didn't work at all. Not even the menu.

He didn't ask met to do anyting with IGMP settings. It's on auto. Provider adviced to have v2

I know from Chromecast casting problems with the HP Omen series that casting didn't work because of hte MTU size? Anyone any ideas on that?

Page 84 of the Orbi User Manual has instructions for setting up VLAN for IPTV.  The entire discussion centers on which Orbi LAN port the TV is connected to.  https://community.netgear.com/t5/Orbi-App/bd-p/en-home-orbi-app This reinforces a conclusion that the Orbi VLAN support is limited to the base router, and certainly does not work over WiFi.  (Maybe someone actually HAS made this work with your ISP and will comment. I hope so.)

Netgear provides 90 days of "complimentary support" with a new purchase.  If you are within that window, it might be a good idea to contact Netgear directly.

It does seem that regardless of what they claimed at the supportdesk that IPTV doesn't really work on a Sitellite. I bought it yesterday so monday I'll contact the Dutch helpdeks in the hope they are familliar with Solcon installation. If that doesn't work and no-one here comes up with a sollution we have to get a cable some how to that room... Orbi will be returned to the store. Too much buck for no real solution.

Sorry it didn't work for you. IPTV seems to be difficult configuration for Orbi.

        Good Luck.
