Orbi Satellite RBS20 - Solid Amber Power Light

I help a gentleman from time to time with his technology. Recently, he mentioned his Orbi RBR20 stopped working. It is showing a solid amber/red light for the power light and no ring light. No lights blinking, just solid as soon as turned on. I used the TFTP to upload the latest firmware but that wasn't successful.

Is this a software issue or did a hardware component blow?

Any suggestions for a remedy?

Thank you kindly.

tftp can be sensitive to times. I'd try again and try several versions of firmware.

if that doesn't help, you can try using nmrpflash.

one other thing to check is the power supply. try swapping in one of the satellites power supplies to see if its a power issue.

      Thanks for the reply.

The tftp documentation wants the power LED to be blinking amber when the PUT command is sent.  But the Orbi never gets to that point. Just stays solid amber. That's the particular aspect I can't get around.

I'm happy to disassemble and get to the board to try a direct serial connection as well. That is new territory for me, but I may be able to make a USB connector from an old USB mouse cable...

My recollection is that getting the power LED to flash amber is essential to perform a Factory Reset, which will erase all user settings and load the firmware image that is currently saved in permanent memory.  (It does not reload whatever image existed when it left the factory, which makes the term "factory" a bit imprecise.)

My understanding is that every time the router is powered on, the router goes through a definite sequence.  There is a brief period of time when the router waits for a TFTP connection to load a firmware image.  Once that time passes, the router goes on to load the saved image from memory.  I have seen no documentation regarding how long this period is and there are definitely no external signs.

I agree with plemans that TFTP is 'touchy'.  I once took six or more tries to get a firmware image to transfer.
