Orbi VPN

When an Orbi comes "out of the box", it has two sets of passwords:

1. The factory WiFi name (SSID) and password are printed on a label on the bottom of the router.
   Until (or if) you change it, this is what devices will see in their WiFi choices.
2. The "administrative interface" for the Orbi is set at the factory with user name "admin" (which cannot be changed) and password "password".  During setup, the user is badgered to change the password to something more complicated.
   These are the credentials that are used to access the management interface and do things like set up VPN's.
   Where the help page was perhaps unhelpful, is that "default" means "unless somebody changed it."
   

So, if the Orbi has never been set up, the admin login is still "admin" and "password".  If it has been set up and the admin password is not known, there are two possibilities:

1. Failing to log in three times in a row will bring up a "Password Recovery" screen where the users answers some questions and enters the serial number of the router.  This works (I have done it) as long as the Password Recovery questions were configured correctly during the initial setup.
2. Otherwise, the only recourse is to do a "Factory Reset" which will return the Orbi to the way it "came out of the box"  (see above).

OpenVPN on the Orbi is a way for the owner to gain acces to the Orbi network when away from home. It is not a VPN to encrypt everything sent to the internet by all the devices connected to the Orbi.

Also, OpenVPN will work only if the Orbi is not "behind a router."  If the ISP modem is actually also a router, VPN will not work.
