Hi thanks. My modem is once provided by plusnet which is my isp here in the UK. It’s dsl. I’ve tried and tried in the settings to make it just a modem not a router, but no luck.
I really don’t want to buy a new modem but can t work out how to turn this one off.

Plusnet is the poor/frugal person's BT. (It is all on the same network) You don't tell us what that modem is – Plusnet has used several over the years – but at a guess it is some variant of the Homehub junk that BT provides.

There's BT for you. Consumer hostile. A lot of people hit that brick wall. I replaced my BT modem/router.

That's odd, your first message asked for modem recommendations.
No matter. You do not have to turn it off. You can put the Orbi into wireless access point mode. Many people do that. Me included. Just turn off the wifi on your Plusnet modem. The Orbi then does its wifi magic for you.
