"with the news that china has built-in hacks to spy on the US" I would ask where does this user get his news information from?
Anything is possible, however for the most part, NG and other router mfrs have to adhear to security standards outside of China, thus there are security companies and individuals who look for exploits on various routers and other networking products. NG and other router mfrs should be keeping there products safe for the most part. However we will never really know what goes on behind the scenes! Good luck finding products not made in china.
