I need my iPhone and a smart plug to be connected via 2.4ghz in order to set up the device. How do I get my iPhone to connect only to 2.4 when it defaults to 5ghz?

Thank you. I will try this option. I tried to set it up and it just comes up with ‘setup failure-try again’. I have tried both the normal and AP setup. It is a Feit electric outdoor plug model BPPLUG/WIFI/WP/2. I have set up many smart plugs and devices inside my house with no problem. Thanks for your detailed instructions!

Except for the setup app being confusing and the plug being "stupid" rather than "smart", it set up and worked just fine.  I now have two sitting in a box waiting until I need them because I was so annoyed that the outlets cannot be controlled individually. My "no name" Chinese outdoor plug does that and was easier to set up as well.
