Outdoor Orbi extender failing to connect
Hi. I recently upgraded from an ac2200 to and ax4200 and now I cannot get the outdoor extender rbs50yv2 to sync. It almost did once, but failed. Is this not compatible with newer systems? I just bought the outdoor one 8 months ago.
The RBS50Y has two 'modes':
- Extender mode, which is compatible with any WiFi system from any vendor. Like any extender (from any vendor) the WiFi signal broadcast by the extender is not 'meshed' with the primary WiFi system. Thus, devices do not roam seamlessly between the primary WiFi system and the extender.
- Orbi Satellite mode, which is compatible with the original "ac" Orbi product line. In this mode, the RBS50Y is completely 'meshed' with the primary WiFi system and devices roam seamlessly. The radio chips in the original Orbi products do not contain the "ax" functionality that is used by the newer Orbi product lines, and thus the backhaul signal will not sync.
Having installed an AX primary WiFi system, the RBS50Y needs to be changed from Orbi mode to Extender mode:
