Outrageous Download Speed

I'm getting horrible download speed. I haven't seen speed this low since the 1990's. This was the speed that I got with the satellite. With the router, i just get download speed about 3 Mbps per seconds. I'm on the latest firmware. I have done a hard reset. My Optimum online speed is supposed to be 100 Mbps download. Any help? Should I just get a hammer, smash this equipment into smithereens, & never buy a netgear product ever again? I have the in-laws at home. I'm trying to play video game online in my room to escape reality, & product is not helping.
