Placement of NAS amongst Orbi satellites

I currently have a Synology Diskstation 1515+ that can at times get loud at night (house gets pretty quiet).  I actually have the luxury of having a third identical satelite that I could put in the garage or near a storage closet area.  That would get rid of the noise and nicely hide the NAS from plain view (aesthetics, nothing else).

My question is this, will putting the NAS on a satelite (READ: NOT the router unit) significantly dampen my performance of my network transmission of the files/movies/photos on the NAS to each client because it is not on the router?  ie. Am I potentiallay losing significant network speed or creating more issues by deploying it this way?

It doesn't seem like it would be an issue, but I wanted to be sure.  Also would love if I could implement link aggregation one day.

  • I haven't tried that, I have my router, a synology and a UPS in a wiring closet pretty much in the center of the house - but it really should not affect your speed on of Wifi Access to the NAS.  The Orbi has a dedicated backhaul so it should be a similar number of hops either way from your Wifi devices.
