Problems printing to USB printer, airprint and Win 10 laptop

I've had Orbi running a couple weeks.  A couple of days ago, I hooked up my old Samsung ML-1740 to the router USB port.  Everything worked great.  I could print from my Windows 10 laptop and had airprint working so I could print from my iPhone.

Today I was looking at what apps I had opened and saw a little line about airprint on the bottom of the screen that shows open apps.  I accidentally deleted that little line and since then I haven't been able to get it to work no matter what I do.  When I try to print, my iPhone says the printer is offline.

I also seem to have a problem with the laptop automatically connecting to the printer and automatically disconnecting when appropriate, i.e., it won't print unless I manually connect, print, then manually disconnect.  I've uninstalled and reinstalled everything.  I reset my router to factory settings.  Nothing seems to work. When I look at the printers and scanners from my laptop it shows the printer as offline unless I connect manually, and previously it would connect automatically.

Netgear tech support says it is an iphone problem and not a router problem.  I checked for firmware updates and it says I'm current at 2.0.0.74.  I can't understand why I can follow the Netgear instructions the same way and get the desired result a couple days ago and something completely different today.  Thanks.

  • You have a tricky situation -- You want to connect a USB printer and you want Airprint to work via the Orbi printer utility.  Does the Orbi even give Airprint capability to non-Airprint capable printers connected via USB?  That may be why they're telling you it's an iPhone (iOS/Airprint) issue.

First, can you print to the USB-connected printer regularly by installing the ReadySHARE utility?  Try reinstalling the software on your Mac or Windows printer and see if that works (by itself).  https://kb.netgear.com/000044724/How-do-I-connect-a-USB-printer-to-my-Orbi-router

I can print from my Windows 10 laptop to my Samsung ML-1740 printer connected to the Orbi USB port.  My real frustration is that I was able to Airprint from my iPhone to that same printer the prior day and couldn't the following day.  I reset everything.  I rebooted everything.  Reinstalled everything and it still wouldn't work.  I had it working once, so why not again?
