RB50 issues with smart lights
Hi, So I've had an RB50 plus 2 satellites in use for a few years now without issues. I've just installed 2 x strip lights which are Tuya products connected to their own WL5 miboxer controller. S...
- Jun 27, 2023Thanks Plemans,
Ive just come back on to post my solution, which isn'too dissimilar to yours.
After a good few hours of researching/testing. I replaced my orbi mesh with an old asus N66U router where I could separate the 2.4g and 5g networks. The lights worked flawlessly from both the tuya app and alexa.
Based on that I dug an old tp powerline out of the loft and set that up as a 2.4ghz Access Point only (ensuring the channel was distant from the orbi 2.4ghz channel).
I then logged on to the tp powerline on my phone, re-installed the lights to the tp 2.4g network and just for belt and braces, connected my echo show that would control the lights via alexa to the same tp 2.4ghz network. Reconnected my phone to the orbi network and all seems good. Problem solved.
As you said, smart lights etc... don't cope well with meshed networks !

I've got tuya lights and they've got issues. I've tried them on mesh routers and regular ones.
None of them stayed stable. I actually had to set them with a different (tplink) smart switch so they turn on on a certain time. then I manage them through the app/alexa and they work for a couple hours until the schedule turns them off.
That's the only way I've found to keep them stable/working.
They're not good devices.

Most smart devices have no issues. I probably have 20+ smart devices that all work fine with my orbi. But the Tuya's have been a problem since day 1 of buying them.
- CrozzerJun 29, 2023GuideYep, same here. No issues whatsoever with any of my other smart devices.
