How can I increase the speed of RBK50 internet port to 1000 mbps? Any guidance will be highly appreciated.
When the Orbi web interface (http://orbilogin.net ) Advanced Tab, Show Statistics panel shows the WAN interface is connected at 100M/Full, this is a result of the Ethernet adapters of the modem and router negotiating that speed.
Wikipedia has a detailed article about this process which is built into the actual Ethernet hardware:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autonegotiation This has been part of Ethernet adapter hardware for 20+ years and is covered by a detailed IEEE standard 802.3 which has been revised many times (most recently in 2022).
Most of the time, this is a result of "something wrong" with the cable connection between router and modem:
- The RJ45 plug at one end or the other is not crimped exactly right.
- The RJ45 jack at one end or the other is not making good contact on all eight of those tiny wires.
- Something is wrong with the actual cable.
- The tiny plastic 'snap' that holds the plug into the jack is not tight enough.
The most common trouble shooting tactic is to replace the cable. after examining the RJ45 jacks closely.
If trying a couple of new cables does not work, it is time to ask "how old is this router?" If the actual WAN port is broken, and the router is less than one year old, then it's time for a Return Material Authorization (RMA)
