tftp can be sensitive to timings. I've ran it several times and had random times work better than others.
are you on windows? if so, follow this guide
https://kb.netgear.com/000059634/How-to-upload-firmware-to-a-NETGEAR-router-using-Windows-TFTP
just make sure you enable tftp
https://www.thewindowsclub.com/enable-tftp-windows-10
and here's a video walk through.

and if that doesn't work, you can try using nmrpflash

Thanks for the response. I am follwoing these directions but I cannot get the amber light to appear. It just stays a solid green:
- Watch the Power LED. It starts with an orange color, and then start flashing.
So I cannot get to the point to be able to use tftp.
I am using Windows 10.

I've done it with the light green.
I've also used nmrpflash when tftp wouldn't work.

Ok, thanks. So you're saying to ignore the fact that I cannot get an amber light or into the factory reset mode? Just confirming. I don't have a lot of experience with routers and networking so I have been following the directions word for word. Again, thanks.

Is the power LED (the tiny light at the back of the router near the power cord) green? Thats normal.
Whats the status of the ring LED on top of the router?
I'm asking about the "normal" power cycle, not the steps needed for tftp.

Also, whats with the instructions on https://kb.netgear.com/000059634/How-to-upload-firmware-to-a-NETGEAR-router-using-Windows-TFTP
It starts with step # 6, 7, and jumps to 16, skips 19...

Yes, it is solid green. The led rind at the top of the router does not come on at all. Not even when I unplug and plug it back in.

Last resort could be this:

Thats some pretty hard-core method for reviving the device.
I suggest getting warranty replacement if you are still within 12 months of purchase.

It's a year and half old so it is out of warranty and I don't have the service paln. $89 for 6 months...and no assurance they can fix it.
