This appears to be saying that there is NO router at all, which cannot work.
2nd floor has been kinda shabby, so I decided to get another sat, an RBS50v2, which I was assured would work just fine with my other units. I have successfully connected the new sat to the router with direct wire, but when connecting through my patch panel that sits next to the router in the basement I dont get a wired connection on 2nd floor. I have tried connecting my laptop to the very same wall plug on 2nd floor and I get a fine wired connection to the Orbi LAN and internet access.
So question is, should the patch-panel not connect me directly to the wall plug on 2nd floor, or does something happen with the signal when going through a patch panel that
Yes, if the patch panel is wired correctly, an Orbi satellite should connect through the patch panel. Your troubleshooting is exactly what I would do:
- Connect satellite directly to router with short ethernet cable - check.
- Connect laptop from 2nd floor through patch panel to router - check
- Connect satellite on 2nd floor through patch panel to router - check.
You might take a look at the Orbi web interface, Advanced Tab, and check the box "Show Statistics". What rate does it show the satellite/laptop connected at on the LAN port that is being used?
