RBR20 firmware update

I got an email that there is a firmware update for my RBR20.

Your products have the following updates available:
RBR20
Learn how to update here
Latest firmware version: v2.3.5.36

But when I go into the Router settings (through Chrome) and try to update, no updates are found. The current version is V2.3.5.26.

I have updated the router this way in the past.

I tried to use the Android app, but since I'm using the Orbi as an AP I can't enable Remote Managment.

Is there really a firmware update? Do I need to do this manually?

Thanks.

Don

    • Netgear has created a tremendous mess by having an automated system firing off emails that is not in sync with the product developers.  Yes, new firmware was released (not this one) and appeared as an "Update Now" message that people would see if they logged into the Orbi management system.  A bunch of people saw the message, updated, and the chorus of complaints began.  Netgear "pulled" the firmware update.  Then, more complaints because of the SSL certificate issue, which only pertained to accessing the management web page.  So, Netgear issed a "Hot Fix" to replace the SSL certificate with one that was "self-signed".  More complaints.

My advice: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."  When you next learn of "new firmware", take a deep breath, wait a while, and check the user forums.  If people are posting, "Wonderful firmware update.  SO happy!", then install it.  If they are saying, "Oh, s**t.  Now THIS is broken." wait some more.
