RBR20 Internet Speed Randomly Slows after Firmware v2.7.56 Installation

I have an RBR20 router/satellite and after the v2.7.56 firmware upgrade, my internet speed randomly drops (from 930 mbps to 90 mpbs).  Once I reboot the router, the internet speed returns to normal.

Is this happening to anyone else?

If not, I want to downgrade to an earlier firmware release but each time I try, the router is automatically upgrade to v2.7.56.  How do I disable the automatic firmware upgrade?

That is a sad situation.  My old RBR50 is updated to 2.7.5.6 and the speed remains the same on Spectrum cable.

The newer WiFi6 Orbi routers have a setting to enable/disable Auto Firmware Update.  This feature is not present in the older WiFi5 products.

The only method I have found to prevent automatic firmware updates is to block access to the Netgear server URL, i.e.:

    • Change the DNS server to OpenDNS.
    • Create an account on OpenDNS.
    • Log into the account at OpenDNS and block fw.updates1.netgear.com

It is all a bit strange because the Netgear Terms and Conditions we all agreed to when installing the Orbi (years ago in my case) clearly state that we agree that Netgear can update the firmware whenever they want (whether the upgrade works or not).  See section 15:

Thanks.  I appreciate the idea.  An upgrade may be coming.....
