As far as I know, you are correct that the normal Orbi log file is created from scratch when the Orbi boots up. Orbi is based on OpenWRT, and the default log in OpenWRT is a memory "ring buffer". However, the method used to handle logs in OpenWRT does not appear to be how Netgear is handling logs because log definitions are not in the system config file like they are in OpenWRT and the "log" command is not in config.d as is it in OpenWRT.
You could set Orbi to create a "debug log" that is activated when it starts up. After Orbi is completely "up", you could log in and Save the debug file. (This is setup on the web page: http://orbilogin.net/debug.htm with the same credentials: "admin" and the admin password.)
I fear it is simply impossible for the Orbi to preserve "what happened" if what happens is it aborts and restarts.
If you DO find a way to preserve log information, please post it.
