RBR50 - Pink light stuck on / internet works fine
Hi everyone,
I have an Orbi RBR50 system with two satellites (RBS50). As of the last couple of days I've noticed the pink ring light turn on at random on the router and then shut off. As of this writing the pink light is just stuck on indefinitely. I understand that this is meant to indicate that there is no internet connection. Strangely I do have an internet connection and I'm writing this on my laptop while connected to the wifi with a pink light turned on.
A few things that I've tried so far:
- Power cycled the router and satellites
- Updated the firmware to the latest version on router and satellites (had to use the manual update via web browser, the orbi app update feature kept saying that there were no new firmware updates)
- Disconnected ethernet from modem to router and connected modem directly to laptop to test internet. Internet worked fine when connected directly to laptop. Then reconnected modem back to router.
I've had the Orbi for 5 years and nothing has been changed recently to explain this behavior. It's been the same devices connected to it for at least 6 months.
Does anyone know what would cause the router to show an erroneous pink light even when it has an active internet connection? Are there any other issues that would also generate a pink light?
Thank you for your time

My suspicion is that the router attempts to connect to a specific URL and displays the error condition if it cannot. (Personally, I would have attempted to resolve an URL into an IP address using a DNS query. Since Netgear does not publish exactly what they are doing, we have no way to know. Even some sophisticated monitoring of the internet connection when the router is powered on would probably capture such a flood of connections that it would be difficult to decide that any specific packet was the culprit.)
Certainly sounds annoying.
