RBR50 connection issues
Hi all, I have the RBR50 netgear router and 1 salellite. Lately I have been having several issues. Orbi drops from around 300mb to 50mb speed. Usually a reboot fixes the issue. I have sonic 1gb intern...

What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too? If your modem has a built in router and wifif, This would be a double NAT (two router) condition which isn't recommended. https://kb.netgear.com/30186/What-is-Double-NAT
https://kb.netgear.com/30187/How-to-fix-issues-with-Double-NAT
Couple of options,
1. Configure the modem for transparent bridge or modem only mode. Then use the Orbi router in router mode. You'll need to contact the ISP for help and information in regards to the modem being bridged correctly.
2. If you can't bridge the modem, disable ALL wifi radios on the modem, configure the modems DMZ/ExposedHost or IP Pass-Through for the IP address the Orbi router gets from the modem. Then you can use the Orbi router in Router mode.
3. Or disable all wifi radios on the modem and connect the Orbi router to the modem, configure AP mode on the Orbi router. https://kb.netgear.com/31218/How-do-I-configure-my-Orbi-router-to-act-as-an-access-point and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7LOcJ8GdDo&app=desktop
What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?
What is the distance between the router and satellite(s)? 30 feet or more is recommended in between RBR and RBS to begin with depending upon building materials when wirelessly connected.

Be sure to disable Traffic Meter if it's enabled as well.

I have sonic 1gb internet fiber. If I connect my iPad directly to the modem I get around 800mb. I tried to connect over either From the ports on the orbi router itself. I only get a speed around 23-150mb. I thought that this was just an eithernet switch in the router. Today when I tried to reboot the router to fix said issues It finally connected but I am only getting around 150mb. My question is when are we going to see a software update or do I need to buy a Erro instead.

My service provider is Sonic gb fiber. The modem just says Sonic. But I don't think this is the issue. I am trying to resetup my Orbi from scratch. It gets to the point where it asks me to select a name for the new network. I entered the name. Then it ask to join the new network. Then after a while it say that Orbi can't find the network and connect. I tried this several times. One time I get Orbi to finish setup. Then I wanted to try orbi in AP Mode. Now I am trying to resetup my Orbi from scratch. And right now I am at the point where I get the above error can't connect to new wifi network. I have checked and I am connected to the correct Wifi network. I am using an iPad Pro 2020.
I think sonic supports the Erro so if you guys (support) don't seriously address this issue that most users are experiencing then I am going to switch to erro. I bought the Netgear over the Erro because every one says the Orbi is faster. When it works I only get 300mb so I don't think that is blazingly fast.

Reason for asking about the modem is to help you determin if thats a modem only or does it have a built in router and wifi already. This will determine if you can use Orbi in AP mode or not. If it's got a built router already, AP mode is possible on the Orbi. If it's a modem only, then AP mode can't be used on the Orbi.

Also be sure not to use Traffic Meter on the RBR if it's enabled. TM is causing problem on Orbi systems.

with the number of people with the same type of issues, which then are traced back to the firmware, wouldn't it make sense to start there first? Granted the modem issue is a valid point, but these board is sizzling with people having firmware issues.

My modem is a modem only. Also, I just rented 2 eero Pro 6 Mesh Routers from Sonic my internet provider. I am getting much better throughput all the way around. Even My Older Synology R2600 router was getting better throughput speeds. Both on wifi and Eithernet in the high 480s-500mbit on wifi and 900+ over eithernet. I thought that for the 200-350Mbit slower speed was that I had to much interferance from neighboring Wifi signals. Aparently that is not so.
