Going thru points raised;
1) Computer is directly connected via ethernet cable
2) Yes it has an IP address - verified with PING and no packets lost
3) Internet works for a few hours then main router seem to lock and lose internet connection. Internet feed then verified as fine with old belkin router.
3) Browser reports connection refused. Not a time out. Have left system to settle after a fresh power on/off reboot and all the router status ring lights go from flashing white to blue to off and a few more minutes after but still the router refuses connection. You can run diagnostics but it can't automatically fix.
If I power on/off the router then the satellites go magenta - then blue then off which gives me hope they are connected correctly when router is on.
4)After a hard paperclip button amber blinking light held for 30 second reset, my settings now seem to remain instead of reset and being presented with a fresh setup. I have done factory resets in the past and know what is supposed to happen (as it is a major pain to have to set up all the port forwarding and fixed IPs needed). I have repeated a paperclip reset several times now with all satellites off and unplugged and it will not revert to factory at this point in time.
5) The iphone app did pop up with login and credentials page a couple of times and I tried my password and default 'password' but no joy and now the app times out (cant tell if that is time out or refuse)
When it's working it is great and it has been working a few years fine just in the last few months (new firmware - cant remember when it updated TBH) - but not feeling the Orbi love right this moment!

Thanks for your patience. What IP address is assigned to the computer when it is connected to the router?
Normally, Orbi routers choose to assign the IP subnet 192.168.1.x to devices connected to the router LAN (Local Area Network).
Sometimes the Orbi itself has been assigned an IP in that subnet by the device the Orbi is connected to on the WAN side. In that case, the Orbi has to assign a different private IP subnet to the LAN, which can be any of the following:
- 10.0.0.0 – 10.255.255.255
- 172.16.0.0 – 172.31.255.255
- 192.168.0.0 – 192.168.255.255 except for 192.168.1.x

Even though so many other subnets in the 192.168.x.x space are available, Netgear chose to have the Orbi use 10.0.0.x for the LAN subnet when the normal subnet was already being used on the WAN side.
The Orbi router will appear as IP .1 on whatever subnet is used on the LAN side, i.e. either
- 192.168.1.1 or
- 10.0.0.1
Can you please try opening a web browser to connect to "1" on whatever subnet your PC is in? (This will check whether the Orbi DNS process is working correctly. When users enter http://orbilogin.net , that is not a "Real URL" that can be resolved into an IP address like "ford.com" or "google.com". The Orbi router is supposed to intercept the connection request and substitutes the IP of the router.

I am happy to be patient as ticking these things off might get to the bottom of this annoying issue.
I seem to have devices on the network at the IP address I expect and all are working as expected except the Orbi gateway router.
Direct Connect computer on 192.168.2.1 (ethernet not wireless port)
Orbi gateway router on 192.168.2.251
Belkin router on 192.168.2.254
NAS on 192.168.2.39
Spare laptop 192.168.2.13 (wireless port)
These addresses are fixed because they are assigned IP in the orbi software.
I can verify all the addresses using CMD-->ipconfig/all and this shows 192.168.2.251 as gateway
I can test all addresses using CMD --> ping x.x.x.x
All the address above ping (192.168.2.x) with no lost packets along with other devices in this subnet range.
This includes 192.168.2.251 Orbi router which returns all packets with no loss.
All the other address below result in 100% loss including specifically 10.0.0.1 and 192.168.1.1 and similar.
Entering 192.168.2.254 and 192.168.2.39 in brower succesfully gives Belkin and NAS page.
However 192.168.2.251 in browser, which all evidence suggests is where the Orbi gateway is and replys to pings, gives connection refused.
I understand that orbilogon.net is translated into the ip address by a DNS but I tried it anyway just in case!
So I believe I have the right IP for the orbi gateway, verified by ping but it's not providing its web page for diagnostics and settings.
Happy to run other tests if you can think of any. I hope you can understand why i am getting a bit frustrated with this orbi.
What are your thoughts on what to test next?
Not what I expected (which is a good reason to ask).
If the Orbi has IP 192.168.2.1 and the gateway is 192.168.2.51, then that is where the Orbi router should be.
Can you open a browser to that IP? (http://192.168.2.251)
I also forgot to ask how this is all laid out.
- What equipment is from the Internet Service Provider? (model number)
- The Orbi connects to the ISP? and
- The Belkin connects to the Orbi?
