WOW, well thank you to all. I finally got it working but it was so weird how I did it.
I first had to go to manual update, then select a satellite (even though it said no updates were available) and then go back to Online update and login and upload the file and then run the firmware update. I had to do that for each satellite in turn and then the router .
Doesn't make sense but finally everything is up to date.

Does every device connected to the Orbi appear to slow?
Firmware v2.7.5.4 was released in Feb 2023. It is a mystery why the Firmware Update process does not report that it is available. You can download files for the router and satellites from the Netgear support site and manually install them. (satellites first, router last)

So, when I try to manually update the software to on the RBS50 satellites to version 7.5.4, I get this message:
This firmware file is incorrect! Please get the firmware file again and make sure it is the correct firmware for this product.
It isn't just my laptop that slows, but the Roku tv also slows to 1mbps. A reboot of the router returns it to normal.
I don't see an option to update the RBR50, as it says the version is current.
