RBS50 suddenly not working correctly
Hi all I've had the Orbi mesh system for a little over a year now. It's been fine until about 2 weeks ago. Currently, my satellite in my home studio is only giving me about 15mbps when it used to gi...

The modem is a Verizon quantum for their gigabit service. The router is the RB50
Distance is around 75 feet but with one wall. It’s been that way for months with no issues.
There are neighbors all around with WiFi but again, never had an issue. It seems something happened when the auto update got pushed.
I’m planning on a factory reset tomorrow. I gave up for tonight. Was at it for hours and was unable to teleconference with work on zoom.

Try a factory reset. Be sure both RBR and RBS are on the same FW version. v16 is the most current version.
- skyhighrocksMay 14, 2020TutorOk we got a weird situation here.
This morning I took the time to redo everything. I updated my Mac, made sure my orbi and satellite were up to date, and I started with a fresh install of the network. After pulling some hair out, I got things working. My WiFi speed out in my studio was where it’s always been.
I tested it all day as I had a scheduled live stream at 6pm tonight. Everything was great....until just before 6pm. The same exact thing happened the previous night. My WiFi in my studio, with nothing changing, went from about 400 mbps down to .01. Yes! That’s how slow it got!
In the house, at my modem and router, the speeds were flying as they should. The WiFi in the house was around 400 which is where it always is. In my studio, which is about 50-60 feet from where orbi sits, was non-existent. I missed my stream for the second night in a row and had people waiting on me. I got on the phone with Verizon, my ISP, and they did the usual stuff, unplug, reboot, etc. The problem is that my Verizon speeds were off the charts as was the WiFi in the house. Verizon insisted it was the orbi but why is this happening at 6pm the last few nights? It’s like clockwork. And only the satellite.
I brought the satellite in to redo the network again. It took forever to connect. I ended up keeping it in the house but next to a window near my studio. The connection was terrible but I tried the stream almost two hours later. I dropped thousands of frames as my speed showed a top speed of only 60-75 mbps.
Has anyone ever gone through something weird like this where it’s all running perfectly all day and then at almost the exact same time each night, only the satellite craps out? I’m stumped here.- FURRYe38May 15, 2020Guru - Experienced User
Possible your RBS is too far away from the RBR. Try moving it closer.
Try setting manual channel 1, 6 or 11 on 2.4Ghz and any unused channel on 5Ghz.
Try enabling Beamforming and MIMO(MIMO may or maynot be needed) and WMM. Under Advanced Tab/Advanced Settings/Wireless Settings
Try disabling the following and see:
Armor, Circle, Daisy Chain, Fast Roaming, IPv6 and Set 20/40Mhz Coexistence to 40Mhz only. Set Short preamble instead of Long preamble modes. Save settings and reboot the router and satellite(s).- skyhighrocksMay 15, 2020TutorSo after many hours of working on this and researching, and also ordering another satellite, I figured out the issue. Pretty upset with myself for not realizing this sooner!
I’m a musician, and have been doing live streams playing my guitar. I recently started using my guitar wireless system without even thinking twice. It came to me all of a sudden today as my internet speed dropped again but at a different time. The wireless runs on the 2.4ghz band! Duh!!! After switching back to a cable, my speeds were a lot better. Not perfect like before but much more manageable. The second satellite should be here tomorrow and I think it can only help my connection. Thanks for the suggestions and responses!
