RBS50Y Serial Recovery Options for Suspected Corrupted Firmware
I have a RBS50Y that is flashing red (corrupted firmware) upon boot, and will not reset no matter what I try (30, 30,30), several reboots... still flashes red. I connected a USB to Serial adapter a...
No idea. I have used the serial interface to copy individual files to a router and use the built-in vi editor to modify files. No clue how to load firmware. Sorry.
Thanks for your reply. Surely Netgear didn't make the RBS50Y without some way to recover corrupted firmware in the absence of an ethernet port!? With a $500 retail price, there has to be a way to recover the firmware in case of corruption, right? 😉
I agree there probably are methods to load firmware on the product using the serial interface. Developers work will all sorts of devices which have no Ethernet port. (Come to think of it, I have never opened up any of my cheap IoT gizmos to see if they have serial interfaces in them. Hmmm. Probably not. They may have to physically install a new chip.)
My guess is that one of these developers could explain the differences in the various types of devices, Broadcom vs. Qualcom chipsets, etc. etc. For the rest of us, the learning curve could be YEARS.
I'm not sure with this particular device since I don't see any u boot commands that jump out at me such as loady or similar that allow loading firmware over serial. Are there any developers or Netgear employees that might be able to at least give me a hint? I think a hint will help me figure it out and I can do the necessary homework.
