Ashdli did you ever figure this out to get it working without setting up AP mode?  dealing with similar issue and this darn doorbird.  can't figure it out for the life of me and I do not want to set up the other router as an AP.  

What you have proposed as ideal setup... and here we are in 2024... ABSOLUTELY should work, yet doesn't!  Can't seem to understand why not 😞
