Netgear drops the ball... again. RBR50 on FW2.5.1.8
I'm a longtime Orbi user. I bought the system as soon as it was available. I'm also fairly knowledgeable with tech devices. The Orbi worked flawlessly for me since he beginning. Like most of you,...

I fail to see why setting the ISP Renew to 20 mins would be better than the default setting of 1 day. That would likely make things worse IMO

Well, since Netgear refuses to comment, and I need a better solution, I’m trying Amplifi and Asus to see if I can get a better customer service experience.
Good luck you all of you.

Ok, so when I complain, I complain hard, but since I was able to solve this, I think I should come back and explain how.
Due to the continual internet drops, I ended up ordering an Asus Zenwifi AX (XT8) two mesh node system. The Asus system is extremely configurable and worked fairly well, except for the fact that in my network topology, two nodes just aren't good enough.
The Asus app (as well as the web interface) give way more information than the Orbi app ever has. I think that's because Netgera has taken the Apple approach that shielding most users from settings will reduce the number of bad ones you could set up.
However, the Asus router could only serve me aroud 500Mbps of the 900 that I enjoy on my Orbi (RBR50). The node was also much slower than the Orbi satellite.
Now, during this test, I noticed that the Asus had a few network drops just like the Orbi did. So, as most of us would do, I started searching to see if my Xfinity service was failing here and there. My modem logs didn't show any faults, but I persevered until I spoke with an Xfinity rep. He confirmed that my modem logs were good and that nothing he could see on his side would justify the problems I was having with the dropped signal to the router.
As it so happened, I decided to use the new ethernet cable supplied by the Asus router set to connect the modem to the router. Since that change, I have had no more connection drops.
So, after all that, a $3 ethernet cable was the culprit. My apologies to Netgear (and Xfinity).

Where do you get ethernet cable for $3?
- UnCapitanoApr 03, 2020ApprenticeLOL.... they’re thrown in with every networking item I’ve ever bought, so I have plenty of them.

Well, certainly glad it was just a cable that was the cause of all your frustation. Something to keep in mind should anything like this happen again. And we can presume that your Orbi system is working and FW v2.5.1.8 is not the problem anymore.
Please mark your thread as solved so others will know.
Enjoy. :smileyembarrassed:
