Sadly factory reset is often asked for in other forums as well (I came from ASUS router where that was usually the first canned answer to any issue reported).
HOWEVER, most vendors (actually probably all other vendors) definitely do not force the updates on users in a way where it is not possible to disable them. It is stunning NG forces this on users - makes you wander whether technology experts or sales team are in charge of NG support. :smileymad:

May not feel/seem like it but forced updates is for Security against constant cat and mouse between hackers IOT devices that include routers and AP devices.
- gr8shoApr 15, 2019VirtuosoSorry, not a valid excuse. Sure security fixes matter, but present them to me and let me schedule the update on my own time. I don’t think it’s unreasonable expectation.
Cheers. - binventiveApr 15, 2019Initiate

Perhaps critical security updates should be deemed as being "required" and applied automatically (assuming they have been tested thoroughly beforehand), and other fixes/updates should be optional in terms of when they are installed. That is generally how it was done when I managed patching for a company I worked for before I retired. Due to corporate auditing requirements, we were forced to apply critical security updates on at least a monthly basis (sometimes more frequently if some updates were deemed important enough). But, we were allowed to update non-security-related patches on a more as-needed basis. Anyway, the various Netgear wireless routers are primarily for the non-enterprise home market, so providing more granular control over management of updates is probably not something they will do.
