Reusing RBR/RBS50 with new Wifi 6 systems?

At some point I’m going to buy a new Orbi Wi-Fi 6/6E system. I currently have an RBR50 system with two satellites. Can any of these components be used with the new system? It would be great if I could connect the RBS50 satellites to the new WiFi6 system to extend my coverage to the barn and other outbuildings on my property. I understand the outbuildings would not take advantage of Wifi6 which I’m OK with.

This question has come up several times. I believe the answer is, "no". The WiFi backhaul between the new "AX" Orbi units takes advantage of WiFi6 to get higher speed and is not downward compatible with the oriiginal Orbi units.

You could post the question in the community forum for the AX product and see if anyone who has purchased the new Orbi has reported success (or failure) in this regard. https://community.netgear.com/t5/Orbi-AX/bd-p/en-home-orbi-ax

  • NG doesn't have a Orbi system with 6E as of yet. Only Orbi AX which is wifi 6 only. 6E will be a whole new HW set if and when that comes out.
