Setting up Orbi

I have a VDSL/ADSL line and a modem router. Will Orbi replace all the modem and the router and will it connect to the VDSL/ ADSL line. I note that most of the Netgear equipment is for use with cable.

  • Orbi's are routers+WiFi accesspoints.  You'll need a VDSL/ADSL modem.

    You can

    a) keep your current VDSL/ADSL modem+router and use the Orbi in the access point mode

    or

    b) disable the router feature of your VDSL/ADSL modem+router and use the Orbi in the router mode.

    b) is preferred if you can disable the router features of yout VDSL/ADSL modem+router.

  • Netgear Orbi doesn't have a dsl modem in it.

You could retain your current modem/router and potentially disable the router portion of it and just use it as a modem. Then connect the orbi to it. Or you could use the current modem/router as a router (and use its wifi or disable it) and put the orbi in access point mode.
