There could be some crazy WiFi problem (hidden node? etc.) which is causing so many collisions that throughput is destroyed. Might want to verify results with some other WiFi device.
I am not sure that "the grass is greener" with another system. During the past six months I have been almost smug that I avoided all the issues people have reported with the 750, 850, and 960 products.
Besides the disappointment, how does this lack of maximum speed affect your life? Does the iPhone not load web pages fast enough? Fail to stream Facetime, YouTube, or Zoom?
