Some devices not connecting to Orbi RBR50 after new cable modem install
I recently changed my cable modem and afterwards my Orbi RBR50 network is not behaving as expected. Most devices got back onto the network with no problem, but some, notably my Synology NAS, hav...

Could you please make a screen shot of the top part of the LAN Setup screen? i.e.
My goal is to drive a stake through this issue of "which IP subnet is everything in?"

Thanks for the screen shot. 10.0.0.x it is!
One tiny 'nit'. The DHCP pool shows as 10.0.0.2 to 10.0.0.254. If the NAS has a reserved IP of 10.0.0.75, there is a potential for 'goofy things' to happen. A more traditional approach is to keep reserved IPs separate from the DHCP "pool". For example, if there are IP reservations scattered here and there from 2 to 99, change the pool to 10.0.0.101 to 10.0.0.254.
Could you report what ShieldsUp! reports about the Orbi ports: i.e. open https://www.grc.com/shieldsup .
Click on "Proceed". Then on the next page, "User Specified Custom Port Probe".
Fill in the ports that UPnP shows are being forwarded to the NAS.

Okay I entered in these external ports: 57862, 57863, 57864, 57865, 58809
And this is what I got back:
GRC Port Authority Report created on UTC: 2023-03-13 at 19:08:38 Results from scan of ports: 5900, 5901, 57862-57865, 58809 1 Ports Open 0 Ports Closed 6 Ports Stealth --------------------- 7 Ports Tested NO PORTS were found to be CLOSED. The port found to be OPEN was: 5900 Other than what is listed above, all ports are STEALTH. TruStealth: FAILED - NOT all tested ports were STEALTH, - NO unsolicited packets were received, - NO Ping reply (ICMP Echo) was received.Screen shot:

This is where I confess that not having a Synology NAS is "not helping". What happens if UPnP is disabled and then later enabled again?
This article seems to say that specific ports are required to access the Synology from the Internet:
https://kb.synology.com/en-uk/SRM/tutorial/What_is_port_forwarding
For certain, when the Orbi is set to forward a specific port to a specfic IP address, that's what it does. The Orbi does not check if there actually is a device at that IP address or if it is responding to connections. "Did my job, thanks." ShieldsUp! is reporting that
- no device accepted connection requests on those ports, and
- no device rejected the connection requests.
- the connection just disappeared. i.e. what Gibson calls "Stealth".
- mrsubtractionMar 13, 2023GuideOk so does it appear to you as if the Orbi is behaving as expected, and therefore maybe the problem lies with the Synology? I have a support ticket open with them so if I can narrow it down to saying “The router is fine, seems like the issue is with the NAS,” that’s progress at least.
One thing that made me originally suspect that the issue is with the router is that the NAS is not the only device that’s having trouble getting back online. I have a few IoT devices, e.g., Google Home Mini speakers and WeMo smart dimmers, that have had trouble getting back online. Weirder still is that it’s not like all Google Home speakers or all WeMo dimmers are not able to get online. Some of them are back working no problem, and others I can’t get online even after factory resetting them. It’s all a weird mystery. - KevinLiTMar 16, 2023NETGEAR Moderator
Hello mrsubtraction,
Welcome to the NETGEAR Community!
I am sorry to hear that you are having network issues with your Orbi Mesh System. These issues can occur when you are not on the current update for your Orbi Mesh System.
Please do the following to solve this issue:
First, ensure that you are on firmware version 2.7.5.4.
If not, please navigate to the following link to download FW version 2.7.5.4: Orbi RBK53 | WiFi System | NETGEAR Support
For more information on manually updating your RBK53 please navigate to the link below:
https://kb.netgear.com/31573/How-do-I-manually-upgrade-firmware-on-my-Orbi-router-using-orbilogin-comNext, perform a factory reset on your Orbi Mesh System. If you are using multiple satellites please ensure that the satellites are added back to the system one at a time. After network connectivity has been verified add the remaining IoT devices back to your network.
Best,
Kevin
