Speedtest in the Orbi web interface
Any idea what servers are used by the Orbi web interface's Advanced -Setup - Speed Test? I always get way higher numbers using this compared to all other speed tests (including tests at Ookla's web ...
What modem are you connected to?
did you try different server's using speedtest?
Also, are you using armor, traffic monitoring, access controls, parental controls, qos, etc? Try disabling those and rebooting.
Speedtest.net 301/13.2> Are you usiing the web browser based site or the installable speed test app?
I find that the speed test app is more accurate.
Also depending on sites you select for your location, these can be a factor as well. I pick one site that gives the best results. Others maybe either busier that others or at a distance.
I find that other test sites are not as accurate as Ookla. Even MS Network speed test doesn't see my full 900Mpbs.

I'm thinking about putting a router in front of my RBK50 and running the Orbi system in Access Point mode. Do you lose access to the Guest Network feature in AP mode?
Thanks much.

Hi Whittle,
Yes you can. That is exactly how I have mine setup right now. My FIOS router is handling all the DHCP, DNS, firewall stuff and my ORBI is running in AP mode only. You can enable the GUEST wifi on the ORBI without any issues. You do have to use the web interface (orbilogin.com) to turn on the guest network. You can also use the android app (netgear genie) to turn the guest network on/off. The option to do so on the IOS app is not available when you turn on AP mode, for whatever reason.

Moses

Some combined answers:
Modem used: Arris SB6190
Speedtest servers in my tests: I usually let it select the server. It selects one typically within 20 miles of me. It also selects a host hosted by my ISP (which should be the fastest with fewer hops).
Not using any Armor, access control, parental control or filtering on the Orbi.
Windows Speedtest app results: 236/16 Mbps
Orbi 479/12 Mbps
Speedtest.net 301/13.2
Fast.com 150/13
Google 227/14.8
Official speed for my service: 400/15
I expect some variation between sites and time of day.. I was curious why Orbi's tests (which uses Ookla's engine) gives higher values than the Ookla app or web site. How/which server does the Orbi choose?
Its not a big deal or a problem. Do you all see better numbers from the Orbi's built-in tests?
