What model of Synology NAS? I have a synology DS416Play and had the EXACT same issue as you. My NAS has two network interfaces and I had them setup in a load balancing bridge (the automatic method that synology says doesn't require 802.1q trunking). This worked perfectly with my previous ASUS router but when connected to the Orbi caused pausing/skips in MKV playback. I had to remove the bridge and run the NAS on only one interface. The Orbi has issues with bridged interfaces.
Synologoy Diskstation 412+. Only one network interface is even connected, so definitely not bridged.
