TCL ROKU TV no longer connecting to internet either wireless or wired after orbi RBR40 update
Hi Forum: 2 days ago there was a firmware update on my RBR40 router--not the satellites. After rebooting, all my connected devices came back EXCEPT my 2 TCL TV's which run on the Roku platform. No...

Well the main issue would be the router thats in the modem and having the Orbi router running as well. This causes a double NAT issue which can cause problems with connected devices or devices that needs access to there services.
An option is to bridge the modem fully. Turning OFF the wifi radios on the modem doesn't help here. The modem has to be bridged fully. Something to ask your ISP about.
Or if the modem can't be bridged, you can try to use the modems DMZ or IP pass thru for the Orbi router in router mode.
Or configure the Orbi router for AP mode.

I Should have stated that WIFI is turned off on my Technicolor modem--the router is not operational on that at all. I"m only using it as a modem. But would I still need to "Bridge" the modem in that regard? After all, everything was connected with the ORBI before the firmware update, so I assumed the modem was only acting as a modem. It may be that the modem is fully bridged anyway and I don't know it, as I had Spectrum set up the modem when I had my google mesh network and told them that I only wanted to use it as a modem, not router.

Well if the ISP did configure the modem for modem mode only then hopefully this will be good enough. To Check, Go to the RBRs web page and on the Advanced Tab home page, look under the Internet section. If the modem is bridged, then you should see a ##.##.###.### address.

Thanks. I don't see the "internet section" under advanced tab, but under basic and not sure what I"m looking for. This is a screenshow of the advance tab.

But Spectrum confirmed by modem is in bridge mode.

Ok it would be the Internet Port section which I see is a ##.##.###.### address so the modem is bridged.
Hope changing the DNS on the RBR will help...

Thanks. I"l lcome back and hit "accept solution" if it does!

Easy way to tell if your ISP modem is bridged: Compare Your IP displayed by http://canyouseeme.org against http://orbilogin.com ... Advanced... Internet Port... IP Address. They will be the same if your ISP modem is bridged.

Hi FURRYe38 . Thanks again for all your help. So chaning the DNS to opendns and google didn't work. But something odd has happened, and makes me think perhaps it's not just a DNS server issue. After being frustrated and being told my Roku there was nothing I could do, I went on the orbi app and simply turned internet off on my TV. I then tried to connect to the internet on the Roku with the that setting off on the app (still only using ethernet to the orbi satellite). It asked me if I was in a dorm room or private home, and then I "connected". Though I wasn't on the web. When I go onto the orbi app and then turn internet on for that device--voila! I can now stream
The weird thing is that it seems that every time I turn off the tv, I have to do this again. And for some reason, the orbi app doesn't always see the roku tv's but still sees my other devices--they kind of fade in and out.
Is this possibly an ISP issue--is my iternet signal intermittently connecting/disconnecting? For whatever reason, my other devices can stay "on" without having to do the thing I do with the Roku TV (i.e. my Samsung TV). The Roku forums are all abuzz about issues with Spectrum (my ISP) and Roku, but no one reported my issue--it seems everyone was connecting wirelessly, not via ethernet cable to the satellite.
And the reason I do that with the ethernet is because I am aware that Roku's cannot work on 5Ghz. I don't want to have to turn it off because of other devices, and frankly, because I have satellites where they are, I'd rather connect via ethernet anyway.
I can't say you "solved my problem" but I still really appreciated your advice.

Ok, sounds like your headed in a right direction.
You may not want to control the roku or TV with the Obi app if your running into odd problems. Seen odd things with this app. I don't use it much accept to check operation, speed and make sure RBS are seen and configured correctly.
Something to post about over in the Orbi app forum to see additional help and informaton on that:

Good Luck.

Thanks. Turns out my ISP (Spectrum) is willing to send a TEch out without charging me, so that my do it.
But is there a way to "remove" a device from the orbi app and still connect to the Orbi satellite without it coming back onto the app network map? I"m not really using the app except to turn internet off and on to that TV--which is the only way I can get it to work.
Roku suggested that the ISP (but I"m thinking the router) is not permanently accepting the MAC address for the TV, so that every time I turn off the TV, the ORBI forgets it was there.

You can set up a IP address reservation for your devices ON the RBR if your using the RBR as the router. Or your ISP Modem if thats running in router mode. Orbi router would be preferred.
Orbi app only detects whats connected to the network. Also it depends if your mobile app is connected wirelessly at the RBR or while near the RBS.
I would probabl not use the Orbi app for turning OFF or ON access to the TV or Roku if you seem to be experiencing problems...Leave this app out of the equasion for now...

I will have to figure out how to do that on the RBR--but that doesn't seem particulary challenging. I am using the RBR as the router. Would that be done under the "static route" under the advance setup tab? I may just see if the Spectrum tech can do this. Sure, given COVID-19, I'd rather not have anyone in my house but it seems like people here (Austin, TX) are taking precautions seriously enough that I'm not horribly worried.

Under Advanced Tab/Settings/LAN setup
Yes, most service people are using maskes and such when they come in the home. I just had central air put in my home about a month ago. All workers were wearing maskes when they were here.
For ISP, they might now have to come in side though for your configuration, it would be good to show them whats going on so they know how to get it working better for you.
