I'm in the process of just installing my Orbi system, so take the following with a grain of salt, but I appear to be pretty solid as far as connections with the wireless 5GHz backhaul no less. But to get here:
I have done a factory reset a couple of time on both the router and satelite, startying the entire process from scratch.
I also took out two other access points, that I am hoping to replace with one Orbi and SSID. So less frequency interference.
I initially. tried to do the entire install and setup via iphone app, but a workstation hardwired seems less issue prone.
I gave reboots, synchs, ect plenty of time to timeout or connect / process.
So maybe this helps a bit.

I have some 60 other devices to hook up to the wireless network and will update this thread with progress. Devices consist of workstations, laptops, ipads, iphones, Sonos, thermostats, alarm control, ISY home automation, XBox, Apple TVs, Kodi boxes, Smart TVs, webcams, Alex Echo (dot, Sonos PlayOne), home monitoring cameras....
