Used to be able to use Netgear switch

Hi Guys,

I have the...NETGEAR Orbi Tri-band Whole Home Mesh WiFi System with 2.2Gbps speed (RBK23)

and the...NETGEAR 8-Port Gigabit Ethernet Unmanaged Switch (GS308)

(Sorry for the cut and paste but I wasn't sure what model and I didn't want to get it wrong)

Until recently everything has run perfectly. I go from the ethernet on the back of the router to the switch with a CAT6

We had some sort of power failure or internet failure overnight and now the wifi only works when I disconnect the router from the switch.

I am having issues connecting to some wifi devices (namely the hot tub that's clearly located outside)

The connection was solid until whatever happened happened.

I used to be able to plug the orbi satellites into the switch and everything worked great.

I've just started reading about the green switch problem etc. I'm not sure what I have.

If anyone has any solutions that would be great.

  • I'm finding a bit hard to understand what is going on here. But I think you may be attaching too much weight on the switch. These are dumb devices with not much that can go wrong.

Focus on the RBK23 Orbi system.

Power cuts can mess up things. The first thing to do is to reboot the whole network in the right way.

As this is a router, there is probably a modem sitting in front of it.

Power cuts usually take out both the modem and the router on a network. When the power comes back on, they may start up in the wrong order, with the router starting before the modem is ready.

Be sure to restart your network in this sequence:

    • Turn off and unplug modem.
    • Turn off router and computers.
    • Plug in and turn on modem. Wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
    • Turn on the router and wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
    • Turn on computers and rest of network.
