Using Old Airport Express for Wireless Printing with Orbi

I tried to use an Airport Express as the wireless endpoint for my HP printer in my new Orbi network. It seemed to slow down my internet connection. Is this what will happen? Or can I safely add the 802.11n device to my network and my issues were purely coincidental?

The only posts I could find were about wiring the airport to my router which for me would serve no purpose. I have the router and satellite in locations where I do not want the printer.

Thanks!

Are you saying that when you have the HP printer connected over wifi to orbi you are seeing a slow down?

Yes, the HP(non-wireless model) is connected to an Airport Express which is wirelessly connected to the Orbi network. Not to extend it, but as an endpoint. The Orbi network is slower with it connected, so I took it out. Just looking for someone to confirm that having this older device in the network truly does slow the Orbi 'mesh' network. Thanks.
