Virgin Media Hub 3.0 VMDG505/TG2492LG-VM and Orbi RBK50 - HELP!

I am trying to set up a new Orbi RBR50 onto my Hub 3.0 and I cannot get it to detect the internet. 1. I believe my Hub is successfully in modem mode as the light is solid magenta/red/whatever 2....

"I believe" isn't exactly reassuring.

 

Are you convinced that you are in modem mode.

 

I'm not sure that I follow the narrative here. Take this bit:

Do you mean that simply by plugging the laptop into the Orbi kills the Internet for everything?

 

I am having a  bit of trouble working out what is plugged in where in this scenario.
