Why is NG maintaining 2 "current" versions of RBK50 firmware?
It is listing both 2.7.2.104 and 2.6.1.40 as current versions, both are worldwide releases. Why are they forking their installed base like this? Do these each have their own merits/demerits? h...

You are not the first to wonder if there is any rationale to the firmware situation. There are suspicions that the "fork" is connected to Netgear's relationship with Disney Circle for Parental Controls. Last August, word filtered out that Netgear was releasing their own Parental Controls product. (Maybe "we can do it better", or even "Why share revenue with Disney?") There are web pages describing how to change from Circle to the "new" Parental Controls. However, there have been numerous posts complaining that the process does not work as described.
It doesn't sound like it would be a lot of work to put in a sentence or two explaining why there are two "latest, world wide" firmware versions.
